Althea started writing poetry just for herself, as a healing process that brought out what was inside her. Many of her poems reveal her spiritual life, her talking to God and listening for his voice to guide her. Writing was “almost like medicine for me,” she said. Later she decided to share her poems with others.
She wanted her poetry to help people appreciate themselves—what makes them special, and the spiritual life within them. A few of her poems poke satirical fun at people who fail to reach their spiritual potential.
Althea’s short stories and one-act play were written to give her three children encouragement and moral support for challenges in their lives, conveyed with a touch of humor.
